Arabic (mainly the Levant): from Jabūr a variant of Jubūr ultimately from the same root as Jabbar. The Jubūr are the largest Arab tribe of Iraq named for their progenitor al-Sultan Jabr (see Jabr) and the word occurs in many Iraqi placenames.

This surname is found among both Muslims and Christians; in Iraq it is usually spelled Jabur. Compare Jabour.
