Kabat Surname Meaning

Polish, Ukrainian, and Sorbian; Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian (Kabát): from Polish and Sorbian kabat. Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian kabát means ‘coat, overcoat, jerkin’, also ‘military uniform’, hence a metonymic occupational name for a maker of short coats or a nickname for a soldier.

In Ukrainian, the Polish loanword kabat also means ‘skirt’ and may have been applied as a nickname for an effeminate man.
