Japanese: written phonetically 加戸 ‘increase’ and ‘door’ or 加登 ‘increase’ and ‘climb’; the actual meaning could be ‘corner’. The first can also be pronounced Kato.

The second can be pronounced Katō (see Kato), but may have no relation to the Fujiwara family of Kaga.
