Austrian German; Czech (Křen): from the Austrian German word of Slavic origin Kren or Czech křen ‘horseradish’ presumably an occupational name for a dealer in vegetables or spices and condiments or perhaps a nickname for someone with a sharp tongue.
This is also a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola Slovenia (see Kocevar and compare Slovenian name in 2 below).
Slovenian: altered form of Hren ‘horseradish’ under German influence.
In part it is of Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) origin (see above).
Jewish (from Belarus): unexplained.
