In part, it is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola, Slovenia (see Kocevar). German: from a Germanized form of Slavic krič ‘loud cry, shout’ hence a nickname for a loud person or a habitual shouter, or a metonymic occupational name for a town crier.
