Croatian and Serbian (Kulić): patronymic from a short form of the personal name Mikula, an equivalent of Nicholas or perhaps from a short form of the old South Slavic personal name Kulomir composed of an unexplained first element and mir ‘peace’.
Slovenian (Kulič): probably a nickname derived from kulj or kuljav ‘with mutilated horns’, also ‘without hair’ or based on kuljič ‘ox with mutilated horns’. Compare Kulich and Kulick.
