Lenik Surname Meaning
Polish; Czech and Slovak (Leník): status name for the tenant of a fief from Polish lennik, Czech and Slovak leník, a derivative of Middle High German lēhen ‘to hold land as a feudal tenant’ (see Lehmann). The same Sorbian surname (from lenik) is apparently found in Germanized and Americanized forms only such as Lenig and Lehnig.
Compare also Lenick and Lennick. Czech and Slovak (Leník): from a short form of the personal name Lenard (Czech) and Lenárt (Slovak) (see Leonard).
