Flemish and Dutch: shortened form of Vanderlinden. Swedish (Lindén): topographic ornamental or habitational name formed with the element lind ‘lime tree’ (also from placenames such as Lindesberg or Linde) + the adjectival suffix -én a derivative of Latin -enius ‘relating to’.
In a topographic sense, it could have been adopted on account of a prominent lime tree at the home farm. Compare Lindeen.
