From Luccombe (Somerset), which is recorded as Loucumba in 1183 and Luuecumbe about 1270. The place-name derives from the Old English personal name Lufa or Old English lufu ‘love’ + Old English cumb ‘valley’. Some of the post-medieval bearers given here may belong to (2).

In either case, there may have been some confusion with the Yorks surname Lockham. From Luckham in Whitstone (Cornwall).
