Lushington Family History
Lushington Surname Meaning
From a lost place called Lushington in Smeeth (Kent), which is recorded as Lustinton' in 1278 and Lushington in 1664 (
Perhaps also from Lashenden in Biddenden (Kent), the place-name may derive from Old English *læc ‘stream bog’ or *læcce ‘trap’ + Old English connective -ing- + denn ‘pasture’. It is not clear whether or not this surname survives, but it seems likely that there was some confusion between forms of Lashenden and Lushington in the post-medieval period.
