Sego Surname Meaning

Americanized form of Hungarian Szegő: occupational name for a stonecutter or woodcutter from szegő ‘cutter’. Croatian (Šego): nickname derived from šega ‘joke poking fun at someone’ formerly also ‘slyness’ (compare Sega 3 and Segan).

It may also be based on a word of Italian origin meaning ‘saw’ (see Sega).
