Tucknott Surname Meaning
Of uncertain origin but in Sussex apparently influenced by Early Modern English tucknet(t) denoting a small fishing net used to bring fish to the surface, used especially off the Sussex coast.
In Rye (Sussex), a decree dated 8 March 1506 prohibited the taking of 'tucknetts' (nets used for plaice fishing) to sea before Palm Sunday.
The annual Brighton fishing trip known as tucknet fare is referred to in a local custumal of 154.
