Hispanic (Mexico): unexplained. Americanized form of Rusyn (from Slovakia) and possibly also of Slovak Jurista: occupational name from Slovak jurista ‘lawyer jurist’ or perhaps an altered (Hungarized) form of Jurišta (see 3 below). This surname is rare in Slovakia.

Possibly also an Americanized form of Slovak and Czech Jurišta: from a derivative of the personal name Jura ‘George’.
