Vuori Family History
Vuori Surname Meaning
Finnish: ornamental name from vuori ‘big hill’ (in dialects) or ‘mountain’. Adopted chiefly in southern and southwestern Finland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries especially during the name-changing campaigns to replace Swedish surnames particularly those containing the element berg ‘mountain hill’ as for example Nyberg; compare Laine.
This standard Finnish variant is rare in the US where the surname is mostly spelled Wuori.
