Wilsden Family History
Wilsden Surname Meaning
Probably from Wilsden (WR Yorks) but the absence of post-medieval bearers from WR Yorks and other counties of N England before the late 18th century along with their frequency in SE England, especially Kent, suggest that the surname may sometimes be a variant of Wilsdon (1).
The place-name is recorded as Wilsedene in 1086 and Wulsinden in 1248 and derives from the Old English personal name Wilsige + Old English denu ‘valley’.
