Woad Family History
Woad Surname Meaning
from Middle English wode woad ‘woad blue dye made using the leaves of the woad plant’ (Old English wād) for a seller or user of woad.
It is often not possible to distinguish between medieval bearers of surnames derived from Middle English wode ‘woad’ and wode ‘wood’ and so the medieval early bearers may belong with Wood.
