The term is used in combination with other words to form compound names: for example Ruḥ-ul-Amīn ‘faithful spirit’ is an epithet of the Angel Gabriel mentioned in the Koran (2193). In India the name came to be used as a term denoting a government official concerned with investigation of land claims and revenue claims collection of revenue and land surveying.
