Jewish (Ashkenazic): habitational name from either of two places called Landau (see Landau), Lande in Yiddish. Dutch: from a Germanic personal name formed with land ‘land’ + hardu ‘strong’. English: variant of Lavender. Americanized form (translation) of French Terrien, found in New England.
