Kalich Name Meaning
Altered form of German Kahlich an occupational name for a lime burner (see Kalk Kalkbrenner ). Germanized form of Sorbian Kolik: topographic name for someone living in a dwelling on piles in a marshy region from an (Upper) Sorbian diminutive of koł ‘pile stake’. Czech and Slovak: from kalich ‘chalice’ said to be a nickname for a Protestant. Americanized form of Serbian and Croatian Kalić: probably a patronymic from a pet form of any of the personal names containing the syllable ka or perhaps a topographic name derived from kal ‘mud’.
